A bespoke de Gournay paper has been featured in this year’s Kips Bay Showhouse in Manhattan. A must see event for interior enthusiasts, held annually in an authentic Manhattan Townhouse. Each year, celebrated interior designers transform a luxury Manhattan home into an elegant exhibition of fine furnishings, art and technology. This year, de Gournay’s ‘St. Laurent’ Chinoiserie wallpaper was chosen to feature on the staircase and landings of the five-storey property, across an impressive 47 panels.
The design was chosen specifically to offer visitors ‘a distraction from daily life’ with a space encompassing ‘peace and calm’. The ‘St Laurent’ design, filled with exotic birds and butterflies amongst hand painted Peony, Finger Citron, Prunus, Camellia and Chrysanthemum flowers, was the ideal choice: a literal ‘Interior Garden’, filled with gentle colour and movement.
Like many of de Gournay’s hand painted designs, ‘St. Laurent’ has a unique origin and is inspired by a set of antique panels owned by Pierre Bergé, business partner of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. Bergé’s original was just one part of his beautiful collection of art, design and antiques from all over the world. Preserving the drama and grand scale of the original, ‘St Laurent’ is an accurate botanical study of the many plants and birds found in 17th and 18th Century Oriental gardens.
Designer Kati Curtis’s unique vision and strong reputation for interiors across both residential and commercial properties has created an exceptional result.
